I have always loved teaching. I do not have a single style, but attempt to pattern my style to the needs of the student. In particular, I try to present examples using topics, such as sports, dance, or movies, which would be of interest to the particular student.
As a graduate teaching assistant at Michigan State University, I taught undergraduate level pre-calculus courses. I have tutored both student that were struggling to pass and also students who just wanted to improve their performance but were doing satisfactorily without help.
Allowing the student to make mistakes and then learn from them. Allow the student to show me not only the correct answer but also to be able to explain how they came to that answer. Preaching to a student and doing the problem for them and hoping that they can then figure out future problems of the same type is in my opinion a subpar teaching style.

I would say that all people are capable of learning and improving their abilities, knowledge, and skill. My experience has been that if a child, youth, or adult is given the space in which to learn, and introduced to material in a patient manner, in the style that works for them (be that through explanation or visual learning, etc) they will take the initiative to learn and grow at the pace and direction which works for them.
