My teaching style depends on the student and if we are working in person or online. The first student I taught was in October 2012 while I was still employed by the University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing- Center for Research & Evaluation, developing web and desktop applications to collect, manage, and transform research data, and working on obtaining my Master's degree. However, I have been tutoring full-time for 3 years. I have taught thousands of students, both in person and online. My entire life has been surrounded by both music and technology and I'm looking to share that with my students. In terms of musical instruction, though the particular curriculum I use varies from student from student, I am a firm believer in first connecting to music they already know and using that as a starting point to get them invested in the music. I received a BS in Computer Science, software engineering, and a minor in Mathematics. I worked for one year at the TLC, or Teaching Learning Center, where upper classmen would tutor other students taking courses they had already taken and done quite well in. I tutored mostly computer courses (programming, excel, etc), but there were also days when I was asked to tutor Calculus. I like to start by encouraging the student to demonstrate what they know, and then give them a little nudge of guidance when they come to something that confuses them. If they're really stumped, then I try to teach them first from a conventional standpoint, then switch to a more example-based explanation.
