I have earned a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Math. I am currently working as a chemist, so I have kept up with all the new studies that are taking place right now. While enrolled in the teacher certification program with Hendrix College, I mentored/tutored an eighth grader in various subjects. I enjoyed the one-on-one experience thoroughly and quickly returned to tutoring at Arkansas School for the Blind. During my three years of employment with ASB, I improved ACTAAP reading scores of two students with reading/learning impairments after one year of tutoring sessions from Below Basic to Basic. I have tutored students in all levels of reading and literature, basic math, algebra, and the sciences.

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is really for the person I am tutoring to fully understand the information they are trying to learn. In this way, they can understand the basics and build upon that. I believe the best way to approach a new student is to find out their weaknesses and strengths. Then, really put some hard work into making their weak points better and making their strong points the best they can be. I think that it is best for a student to know how to do their work with AND without a calculator for full understanding in mathematics. Finally, I think it is important for a tutor to try to be a friend to the student so that the environment is comfortable and inviting for the best learning outcomes.

I have always loved teaching students the principals of Math. During my time at Harding University I was apart of a competitive Economic team (SIFE) and for them I developed original material on economic principles to present at the surrounding elementary schools and even high schools. Also during College I worked at a Learning center and was a co-teacher in the pre-school class. I also spent a short time at the YMCA helping kids after school with their homework.
