Through my University’s thorough teacher preparation program, I worked with general education students and students with disabilities. I promote the development and well being of all individuals through my planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs, emphasizing learning through play and creative activities. I recently graduated in May 2008 from Salve Regina University with a Bachelors of Science and a degree in Early Childhood Education, and a minor in Special Education. I completed a full semester, plus more volunteer work, of student teaching in Portsmouth, RI. I’ve also had the opportunity to work for a daycare and preschool, where I worked excessively with, and tutored, children of general education as well as those with autism, down’s-syndrome and other special needs. I had once been told by a very seasoned teacher that "If you can not go through the front door find an open window." She opened my eyes to creative, and interesting ways to stimulate young minds. I love helping children learn, and finding their open window. A great teacher can incorporate different styles of teaching to adapt to a child's learning ability.
As a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills, I would like to explore the possibility of putting my talents and experience to help children. Currently I have a successful and satisfying career with Artwell Gallery, a nonprofit community based art gallery. However I am looking forward to embarking on a new career. I hold a BA in Radio, Television, and Film from Rowan University. For three years I worked in a pre-school teaching Art to students aged three to five.

Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I possess the same talents when it comes to proper grammar. I also teach Catholisim to the 8th grade once per week for 2 hours. I prepare them for the sacrament of confirmation. That is very challenging.
I do enjoy helping anyone write ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My passion is teaching, it always has been. If I could describe my teaching style in one word, it would be caring. Children need to be cared for and know that they can trust you as their teacher. Once that trust is formed, they will be more apt to succeed. My experience teaching four and five year old Pre-K students has made me stop and appreciate the little things about education. At that age, they are so inquisitive about everything and I found myself wanting to teach them about everything!
Upon graduating from Radford University in Virginia, I accepted a position teaching Pre-Kindergarten at Cheshire Country Day School, located in Milldale, CT. I am lucky to have experience teaching in multiple academic settings, which helps make me the well-rounded, enthusiastic educator I am today. For the last three years I have taught English at the high school level and am currently an AP-certified instructor. Prior to beginning my teaching career, I was a writing tutor at my university’s writing lab, where I assisted college students at all stages of the writing process. At a private tutoring firm I conducted a homework club and tutored one-on-one, with significant improvements in SAT verbal and essay scores. My love of English—both reading and writing—comes across in my work and helps students succeed. I enjoy working individually with students to help them reach their full potential.

I am a dedicated educator eager to resume tutoring. I offer a proven track record of commended performance teaching and assisting students in grades preschool-12th, with a passion for education and a commitment to optimizing student and school success.
I believe that teaching is a great challenge, and even though some types of learning are best conveyed in a traditional fashion, for most other types of learning, a non-traditional form of is more enjoyable. As a future educator, I will have a whole classroom full of individuals with different learning styles, different strengths, weaknesses, attitudes, lifestyles, and different motivations, and because of this, I will have to make sure that my students feel connected to what they are learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would say that all people are capable of learning and improving their abilities, knowledge, and skill. My experience has been that if a child, youth, or adult is given the space in which to learn, and introduced to material in a patient manner, in the style that works for them (be that through explanation or visual learning, etc) they will take the initiative to learn and grow at the pace and direction which works for them. People are naturally inclined to learn and grow, and my experience is that when given the opportunity and supportive role of a teacher, they will become interested in learning and continue to do so.
