My comments on tutoring Grammar : "Let's eat Grandpa!" and "Let's eat, Grandpa!" are two very different sentences differing only by the comma after eat -- or the lack thereof. Grammar is extremely crucial in any language, but especially English. There are also many different methods to use grammar in everyday sentences. Example: "Let us go buy, with our imaginary money of course, some ice cream, Susan." The commas surrounding the phrase "with our imaginary money of course" almost make the phrase seem inconsequential to the reader, skimming material. "Let us go buy (with our imaginary money of course) some ice cream, Susan." The parentheses make the phrase whisper itself to the reader. "Let us go buy -- with our imaginary money of course -- some ice cream, Susan." The dashes in this final variation make the phrase scream out! It creates an aura of importance about what it surrounds.

Granted, I am still in school myself, however, I pride myself in exceptional achievements, and a mountain of sharable knowledge. I maintain a 4.0 GPA, and I take college classes as well. I lack teaching degrees and I lack diplomas in any field, yet I guarantee that in some fields -- History and Geography -- I know as much as a college graduate as I study, and have studied since a small child, those fields extensively in my spare time. I love to teach, the few opportunities I have had reaped great feedback and students who came to me personally saying they learned more than had previously. I have taught Bible Classes, Swimming Classes, Geography Classes, and a History class in the past. It is a thrill to teach and make sure that the best knowledge pegs itself into the minds of our populace. Teachers constantly applaud me on being conscientious, hard-working, knowledgeable, active, and ... read more

I am a kid at heart. I understand and relate to children of all ages. I believe that if you are patient with those that are trying to learn, and can find things that they relate to, teaching becomes easier for everyone involved. I have found success in the past with helping youth, and am confident that I can earn their trust enough to assist them in their studies.
I had a son with some special needs. I had to help him with his math throughout most of his junior high and high school years. From time to time, other students in my neighborhood have asked for assistance with their school studies. Assisting them when needed is something I have done several times over the years.

After completing my education at Brigham Young University-Idaho in the spring of 2003, I was hired to work as an aid at the school where I had done my student teaching. During this year, I worked with students in reading and math lab classes which were designed to help students who were struggling to achieve proficient scores on their ISAT's. I then was hired as a teacher and taught for the next two years in the subjects of reading lab, literature, and language arts. I worked with 6th through 8th grade students, and enjoyed each age and the challenges that come with that time in a student's life. I also have children of my own, which has taught me much more about working with children and helping them to learn.
I have found that every student has the potential to learn and improve upon their situation if given the right opportunities, surroundings, and support. I love the "lig ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have taken advanced coursework in many subjects, including math, biology, and English, and I have studied French for many years as well. While preparing for my degree in journalism, I was hired by The Daily Universe, BYU's student newspaper, to help students in the newswriting class with their pieces. Through one-on-one sessions with these students, I was able to see great improvement in their writing styles. Throughout my pre-college and university career, I have been praised for my writing ability as well as my knowledge of grammar, spelling, and expressive techniques. After my coursework at BYU, I completed an internship for Newsweek magazine in New York City, where I further perfected my craft.
I have a deep conviction to helping students achieve both their academic and personal goals. I don't feel that merely passing a class is enough. I want the students I work with to feel ... read more

I recently earned my bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I was in advanced math classes and have studied up through Calculus, testing out of an Algebra II class. I excell at spelling, and earned a ribbon in a spelling bee in elementary. I was also in AP and Honors English classes and wrote a paper that impressed my college teacher so much he wished to used it as an example for future classes. I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.
Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico.

I have found through my teaching that there is a motto that works very well in most situations. "Teach in such a way that it is impossible to not understand" basically if one can teach a complex subject in such a way that even a child can understand it then you are successful as a teacher. But with physics that is not always possible. It is all about the person learning not for me to hear myself talk and get through a lesson. All that matters in the end is what the student learned coming out of the the instruction.
I spent 2 years in mexico teaching in spanish. During some of that time i was the teacher for english classes. I graduate this december with my bachelors in physics, experience of working with classmates and helping other students as they helped me gave me years of experience working as a team on homework assignments.

I have always loved being able to teach and instruct in areas that I am very familiar with. Working the past two years at Eastern Idaho Technical College with the students has enhanced this skill. I am able to identify with how people learn and absorb new information. Then I am able to adapt and teach them in a way that helps them to understand the material. I think that the foundation of tutoring starts from understanding how a person learns, and then being able to adapt, modify and tailor the information to them.
I have worked for ten years as a certified surgical technologist. Two years ago I took a position at Eastern Idaho Technical College as a part-time instructor for their surgical technology program. It was a drive within my nature or inner self to pursue a course in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in Psychology as I attended college at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. My direction following those events led me to teach as an assistant teacher and then as a classroom teacher at a private school working with the young children in Preschool and Kindergarten. I tutored first graders in some of their basic skills such as reading and math. My experience following those days led me to teaching and raising my own children tutoring and homeschooling two of them and further experience in teaching preschool age children in Nursery at the church I attend.
I love teaching and working with young children of all backgrounds. These beautiful young people have such interest in everything about them and a natural drive to experience all they can in the process of ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have taught middle school students reading, English, and mathematics for 10 years. I earned my bachelor's in Elementary Education from Utah State with an emphasis in mathematics. As a middle school teacher, I have found that one of the main reasons students struggle is that they have reading deficits. This prompted me to pursue a Master’s degree in Literacy. I have tutoring experience in mathematics and reading. I am also a musician. I play the violin and sing as a mezzo-soprano. I have musical experience with college and community symphonies and choirs.
I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I was a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in the Nye County School District, Pahrump, NV for one school year. I worked in all grades K-12, on an "on-call" basis. I also worked in the after-school program called "SAFE". My duties included working one-on-one with "challenged" students; physically, emotionally, and mentally. Worked with the Resource teacher in the Victor Elementary School, District #401, Driggs, Idaho. Reading Tutor to students in Grades 2nd and 4th. Worked with students one-on-one in all subjects, not fluent in Spanish. My duties were to observe and monitor from a distance, during their lunch and breaktimes as to social behaviors.
I do not have a degree. I have been instructed by the teachers I have worked with. My style is to let the student know that they are to be attentive, polite, and to try their best to do the lessons. I tell them that I am there ... read more

My student teaching at a local middle school in Phoenix was successful, earning special recognition. At Heritage High School where I taught, I was trained in a progressive teaching method for algebra. Teaching younger aged children is something that I have wanted to do my whole life. Now that I have taught for the past five years there is nothing more that I want to do. I feel any child can learn. They just each have a different way of going about the learning process. When I teach I try to find how my students learn and use that to my advantage. I take pride in knowing that when I teach I bring a positive, upbeat attitude into any subject I am presenting. I have taken the student who hates school, never giving it a chance, and turned them into someone who finds the positive in anything they are doing. I believe that small battles won now, turn into huge victories later on in the learning process.
From the time I was 16 years old I have worked around children, teaching them and trying to create positive experiences. I chose to go into teaching because of this. I earned my BS in ... read more
