After retirement, as a helpdesk and in my private practice as a computer integrator and troubleshooter, I find that one of the challenges confronting a teacher with an older patron, is to be able to cross the boundaries of patron’s preconceived notions, which restricts him from using many features that a computer has to offer.
In one instance, when I delivered a new computer to an older client, I offered to install free Open Office suite, since she did not have the Microsoft’s suite. Very reluctantly, she consented to try it out. We loaded some of the Microsoft doc-format files from her flash drive where she previously saved them.
