Get to "Aha" faster and say goodbye to number anxiety!

One of my favorite feelings is that moment when a student finally grasps an elusive concept. That's why I love tutoring. Giving students that one-on-one attention, observing their stumbling blocks, and working to get past them is the best way to help students learn. I can't count the number of times I've had students tell me "Oh, that makes so much sense now!" and it's because I'm able to identify their specific issues quickly and put the concepts into terms they understand.
Over 6 years of professional tutoring experience. Began tutoring accounting and business at Cleveland State University while completing my undergraduate degrees in accounting and economics. My comments on tutoring Geometry : I have tutored high school students in Geometry.

Punctual - prepared and professional. I look at learning rep. styles of students (pictorial, word or kinesthehic). I try to make the learning experience as painless as possible (especially math). I start with pre-tests to gauge where a student is at, then follow-up with teaching content and finish with a post-test to gauge learing objectives that have been met. Depending on the subject, I like to schedule 2-2.5 hrs ateach session. I also like to work out problems for students and e-mail them the results, where applicable.

My comments on tutoring Geometry : Geometry is a subject that gives many students great difficulty. I have extensive experience in writing proofs and geometric theorems. I also have experience with using the Geogebra software.

My tutoring style is very interactive and involves the use of self-made PowerPoint presentations that break-down difficult concepts into easy-to-understand principles, as well as practice problems to improve your understanding of the subject. I have more than four years of tutoring experience, and my students have seen great results by using these methods. As an experienced tutor, I understand that students have different learning styles, and I adapt my teaching in a way that best enhances your learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I try to find a common, basic level of understanding with the student and then show how a few key insights can help the student broaden her/his knowledge. In math, for example, this typically means showing how elementary concepts can be applied to simplify more complex problems, such as showing how such things as the distributive and associative properties are being used in solving equations, sometimes in a context where these things are often glossed over.
I have taught computer science courses in business college, and I taught algebra, calculus, and statistics as a graduate student. I remain convinced of the necessity of obtaining basic math skills for success in today's world, and I spend a lot of time maintaining my own skills in math and computers. I am currently spending 8-12 hours per day, mostly programming vectors and mathematical functions as spreadsheet macros.

I earned three degrees in five years, all in quantitative disciplines. The range of material covered by those degrees includes mathematics and statistics, economics, and some computer programming. Beyond my education background, I have five years of experience tutoring. In high school, I tutored children in reading and writing and other high school students in mathematics and Latin. In college, I have one additional year of experience tutoring introductory calculus.
I believe the key to learning is to break complex concepts down into manageable sizes. The goal of tutoring is to relate new or difficult material to simple ideas that are already familiar to the student. Above all else, it is important to communicate with the student to understand where the breakdown in understanding is and then develop an approach that aids in comprehension.
