While I was available for a large variety of subjects, I primarily tutored Kent State students in math courses. I only had to leave the position because I was moving out of the area. Teaching is my passion. I strongly believe that every moment is a teaching moment, whether or not it is intended to be. I feel that my job as a tutor and as a teacher is to bring out the knowledge within. I understand that every learner is different and for this reason I begin with an assessment of each student. I then try to use their learning habits as a start for future lessons. I believe in learning through experience as opposed to memorization and so every opportunity I try to create a hands-on environment. My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups.
