Hi! My name is Andrew Hoover and I started tutoring Mathematics/Science during my sophomore year in High School. Since then, I have continued to help others within my classes up until I reached community college. It was in 2008 that I became a certified tutor for Fresno City College, where I have been ever since. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from algebra to philosophy (Symbolic Logic) and even biology/chemistry. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience with teaching began in 2004 as a volunteer for William Saroyan Elementary School in Fresno, CA. I went on to graduate from CSUFresno with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology; Science is my passion and I believe our young students are in dire need of mentors who are dedicated to show them the world. As an Undergraduate, I volunteered as a librarian, and tutor. In 2009, I was employed by Americorps and was required to teach Science, Math, and English to 4th- 6th graders for eight weeks. In early 2010, I decided to further my career goal by pursuing a Master's in Education, for which I will begin my first class session in the summer 0f 2011.

My teaching style can be best summarized as relatable. With regard to tutoring biology, I use analogies, diagrams, and plain english (as opposed to field jargon) to help students understand. I am patient and greatly enjoy that "Eureka!" moment when a student begins to grasp basic concepts.

My teaching style can be described as casual and comfortable. Students who are having problems understanding certain concepts are better able to grasp difficult ideas when they feel they are in a comfortable environment where they are free to ask questions and discuss their problems openly. My goal is to be informative and helpful, but never intimidating. My style works best with high school students, who describe me as approachable, yet structured.
