A Little Bit About Me...

When working with children, I try my best to be engaging, interactive, and fun. If necessary, I'll use props (e.g. building blocks) to help illustrate concepts, and I always try to ask many questions along the way to make sure my explanations are clear. With older students I will use a slightly more textbook approach, but keeping lessons interactive still remains essential, and props may still be useful in some circumstances. In both situations, I try to find which learning styles work best for the student and present lessons based on those. Each person has a unique way of learning, and if a teacher takes the time to understand it, then the student's true potential can be reached.

I believe that being an effective tutor involves tailoring my style to the way the student learns. That is why I pay close attention to what seems effective for each student. I begin by allowing them to ask questions, then answer the questions as directly as possible, and from there I adapt to what seems to work for each student.
I have a degree in chemistry that included many hours of work in a lab setting, and I also worked for 10 years as a chemist in various types of labs.
