Learning Can be Fun!

I have tutored children in group and individual piano lessons. I have tutored them in math and social studies. I have spent over 20 years in business in the accounting field and prepared countless financial statements and income tax returns. I am skilled in all things mathematical. I also speak Spanish through over 9 years of instruction.
I like to allow the student to read the material once and clarity any areas that need more explanation. Then I will allow them to answer questions from the material read and help them where needed to choose the correct answer and understand the reason for the answers. I like to reward a certain level of correct answers with points that can be redeemed for interesting small prizes. I also consider myself very patient and interested in the student having a strong foundation for future learning.

I was a member of the Honors program at Valencia Community College, and graduated with my Associates (AA) as a Pre-Major in Elementary Education. I was hired as a Substitute Teacher for Orange County Public Schools in 2007, where I substituted for absent teachers and paraprofessionals in the Orange County Public Schools district. As a Substitute teacher, I taught children individually, as well as in group settings with varying exceptionalities. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati majoring in Civil Engineering. While in school, I had two different tutoring jobs. The first job I had was with Mathnasium now known as Lumen Learning Center in West Chester, Ohio. At this job, I taught first grade through Trigonometry. This gave me the experience of working with groups of students in different grade levels and different learning styles. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that too many students find math challenging because of the way they are taught. Too many teachers have made it not fun and frustrating and are unwilling to explain the "whys", which can make a big difference to a child. This may be due to lack of understanding on the teacher's part, but I believe strongly that a solid education, especially in all areas of math, will help with problem solving and many other "real life" situations that can arise.
