It is my belief that every person learns differently. Students learn best by different methods and learn at different methods. I find that the best way to tech a student, especially in a one on one environment is to find how the individual best learns and use that, rather than trying to teach by any already formulated method.
As an engineering graduate from Georgia Tech, I have a high level of skill in mathematics, from algebra to calculus and differential equations, and in sciences, especially physics. As a teacher I have many years of experience in various types of settings, I have worked in urban, rural settings, and with students of varing degrees of learning ablilities. I have enjoyed the challenges of working with all sorts of students and seeing them gain self-confidence and excell. I have worked in tutoring programs in and out of the public school system.
I do enjoy teaching and I have worked with all types of children. I think it is an asset to observe how children learn and to be able to tap into their level of interest. I believe children need to be encouragement, to be challenged, to experience success, and to develop an excitement about learning. As a college senior, I've come to value greatly my education. Prior to enrolling at the University of Georgia, I made a perfect 800 on the math section of my SATs. Even though I am a science major, I have a great understanding of math. Currently, I tutor middle schoolers in basic algebra, most of whom are struggling and need a lot of help. I have also recently finished an entire college online algebra course online for someone with a 96 average.
My strongest suit in my teaching style is probably the many ways that I would approach teaching a certain principle. If the student does not understand one way to approach a problem, I try to best to help them understand and learn another way.
