My comments on tutoring Chess : I was taught chess at age four and have been playing ever since. I played throughout school but I have never competed outside of a school setting.

I have just finished law school. I grew up in Brazil as well as the United States which allowed me to become fluent in Portuguese as well as English without any accent. I enjoy computers and have learned many programs inside and out throughout my lifetime. Through college I took every computer class I could and even learned how to create a webpage using HTML formatting. I learned many skills as well to improve my chances of entering into Law School such as study skills and typing skills.
I like to formulate individual teaching styles based on my students. Not everyone learns the same and therefore I do not teach the same to each student. Even before I became an educator, I had the heart of a life-long learner. I believe I was called and gifted to be a teacher and to try to impart a love for learning to my students. I have a BA in English and French, and an MA in French Literature. In my 18 years of teaching experience, I have taught a wide variety of subjects (English, Spanish, French, Social Studies, Math) in mostly small school settings at both middle and high school levels. A Little Bit About Me...

My first experience as a tutor happened my second year in college. She was an elementary student with behavioral problems. After four sessions, I resigned from that position. A month later, I found out that she was autistic. She taught me a very valuable lesson. Before I can tutor, I must first understand what kind of learner the student is. Although, I did not pursue a teaching degree, I have taken this principle with me in all the teaching assignments I have had. I have been an adult software instructor for a year, instructor of general studies for seasonal workers, summer school math tutor for disadvantaged elementary students, and most recently an elementary and middle grades substitute teacher.
