Teaching is a reciprocal experience for the mentor and the mentee. I believe in fostering a learning environment for my students that is both participatory and relevant to a their individual learning style and interests. Working one-on-one with a child, adult, or in a small group is a privilege and affords the opportunity to do more than just teach; it is an important opportunity to help to empower someone to "learn how to learn." In my teaching, I believe that developing confidence, self-discipline, and appropriate learning tools is just as important as mastery of any particular subject.
