Experienced and well-trainined math & statistics tutor

My strengths are in teaching both new and experienced students of mathematics/statistics. I have an easy-going, patient personality, and I firmly believe there is no such thing as a bad question. I am good at breaking problems down to it's most basic level, and going through every step to ensure that you don't get lost. If a particular concept isn't making sense to you, I will try to find another (and another, and another...) way to explain it until it does make sense. I can also help to resolve finance and accounting problems. I’m a finance modeler and analyst by profession. I can work with students on how to resolve math, statistics or finance equation problems. So please, if you're struggling with anything I might be able to help you with - contact me! I newly added Webex online collaboration tool so I can actually tutor your from any location via the web.

My comments on tutoring Algebra I : As a tutor in the college-prep after-school program Upward Bound,I helped students with Algebra I AND II problems for 7 years, and know where the basic pitfalls are.

I start by giving a diagnostic test to assess each student's proficiency in the basics of Arithmetic and Algebra: fractions, decimals, percentages and the interconversion between them, and the rules of working with signed numbers. This approach stems from the notion that without these basics, Math is an uphill climb for most students. I place more emphasis on full work than answers.
I taught college-level Plant Science for 14 years. I spent 7 years as a tutor of Math and Science at the college-prep after-school program Upward bound, helping students with homework and preparing them for the ACT and the SAT. I am currently employed as a Math tutor at a local technical college where I help students with Basic Math, Intro Algebra,Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trig and Elementary Statistics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe any subject is simple – but sometimes you may need someone to show you the way. This is one of my top motivations to appreciate tutoring. In my opinion, people have different learning styles. Consequently, I utilize different methodologies to explain concepts and to resolve problems. My teaching philosophy revolves around the Chinese axiom “Give a man a fish and you have fed him once. Teach him how to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime ".
I’m a humble and dedicated tutor. I hold a BA in Economics and an MSc in Economics [Development Policy Analysis] both from Mekelle University. I have over 5 years of college level teaching experience at Dilla University.Specifically, I offered courses such as linear algebra, statistics, introduction to economics, microeconomics and macroeconomics to undergrad students.
