My last semester at FSU I internship with 1st grade students. I assisted students with areas they were struggled in and encouraged them to push themselves. I tutored several students in reading and writing skills. I also helped prepared students for their weekly math tests. By the end of the semester I took over teaching the class. Some classes in my major required me to do projects with children. As a volunteer, I participated this past year at camp Woe-Be-Gone. This is a one day camp that works with about 120 children, helping them learn at the museum of science and industry while understanding and coping with the illness or loss of loved one. During my ten-week internship at the middle school, I had five classes of sixth grade advanced reading students. Since each class was about 20 students, I had about 100 students in total. The middle school has about 908 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Of those students, 58% are white, 24% are black, 8% are Hispanic, 4% are Asian, and 6% are multiracial.
