A Little Bit About Me...

I believe everyone will respond well to individualized instruction when the tutor studies the student's learning style and offers the information in the form best suited to each learner. I am patient and encouraging with students. I work hard to find ways to present a subject so that each learner will find it interesting.
I am the author of five historical novels and a number of articles, poems and short stories. I occasionally do short “residences” teaching Language Arts and Drama to special needs students in k-12 schools for VSA Arts of Florida. My graduate studies emphasized American and Tudor/Stuart History. My doctorate included a Criminal Justice minor. I regularly teach writing and grant writing seminars to adults, usually through libraries on weekends or in the evening.

More About This Tutor...

The most rewarding moment in my teaching career involved Emily, a college student who suffered an injury, leaving her with severe short term memory problems. She had great difficulty learning new math concepts. We could work on the same, problem over and over again and she wouldn’t remember completing it once, let alone a dozen times. I learned that word-for-word repetition was the best way to move ideas from Emily’s short term memory to her long term memory. After many hours working together, I received a phone call from an elated Emily telling me that she finally earned a B in College Algebra and couldn’t have done so without my help. Emily taught me how to adapt to my students. Each student has her own strengths and weaknesses. It’s my goal and passion to find the best method of helping each student understand concepts and excel in their class.
I have tutored students of ... read more

More About This Tutor...

While attending Florida A&M University I always had a passion for Mathematics, therefore my first year I took Honors Calculus I and received a grade of a 'B'. From that point I completed my Bachelor degree in Computer Information Systems and took my passion in math and began to work on my MEd in Secondary education. During that time I had the opportunity to substitute students in 6-12 grade in two different counties. I also completed my student teaching experience at Shiloh High School in Snellville, GA where I taught 9th-11th Algebra I & II and Geometry.
As an educator my teaching style is very laid back and easy going. I like my students to use there own knowledge to search for a solution while I give them a little bit of guidance. My non-threatening approach tends to win over students and helps them feel relax and not fear to ask questions. My goal is to improve all students in ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I enjoyed tutoring while I was in college working in the math lab for three years. However, now that I have been actually teaching my very own students I have a better understanding of the basics of mathematics and I am a much better student myself.
I enjoy teaching and working with students. I now understand that all children learn on their own level and at their own pace. I am very easy going, but I insist that students do their homework and stay after school for extra help if they need it. I grade work off of understanding. It is not always finding the correct answer, but the process to get to the correct answer. I believe that a good teacher makes a good student and I strive to be that good teacher and student.

More About This Tutor...

I love kids and would like to see all kids meet their goals. I allow kids to express themselves and see what level they are on so I will know where to start working. I build on what they already know and use it to reach the next level. All kids can learn if you make it fun and interesting. I had a tutor when I was in school and she found ways that were interesting to help me solve different problems. After a couple of weeks I thought math was so easy. I used that as an example because sometimes it just takes a few good strategies for kids to grab the concept and go with it. I am patient, caring, and strive to help kids gain the knowledge to enhance their learning experiences.
I have a BS in Administrative Management Systems which is now known as Office Administration. I recently got my MBA online from the University of Phoenix. I have experience in all levels of math. I have taken ... read more

As a graduate of Florida State University, my ambition to achieve my goals and the highest possible level of education has never wandered. I have earned my bachelor degree in Finance and Economics, which has required an ample understanding of mathematics and statistics. Also, thanks to my European background I am particularly gifted at learning languages and at teaching them. I am a fluent speaker of English, Spanish and French. I was an unofficial tutor in mathematics and French for some of my friends while I attended Community College, and I am very proud to say that their grades improved tremendously due to their dedication and my help.
I truly enjoy teaching, regardless of age or level. In order to succeed, I believe my students should possess a positive attitude when it comes to learning. Learning is about having the right attitude, and of course, the right help. I am flexible ... read more
