My teaching style is direct, disciplined, relaxed and conversational. It will not work to just dictate to a student! The point, I think, in tutoring, is to develop good study habits and identify and discard the bad ones. Once we know what works, we can proceed from there. It is also a question of knowing that studying can be made interesting and fun. Most high schools serve up tedious, boring curricula in tedious, boring ways. Students are required to summarize all chapters in the text book and write how the math topics relate to their own personal life.
