I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I graduated with a Biopsychology degree or otherwise known as Behavioral Neuroscience. This degree enabled me to study organic and inorganic chemistry, biology (immunology, biochemistry etc.), math (statistics, calculus) and 1 year of physics. My favorite class, however, was a psychology class called learning and behavior. That class has honed my teaching skills and I enjoyed using those skills while tutoring adolescents in a wide variety of subjects, high school teenagers prep for the ACT exam, working as a teaching assistant for organic chemistry and tutoring an autistic child.
My teaching style varies with skill level. Some children need reinforcement schedules while others just need help puting their foot in the right direction. Mathematics and Statistics are areas of study that have followed me throughout my life, from competition in MathCounts in Kansas and finishing 25th in the state, to scoring 35's twice on the Mathematics section of the ACT twice, but more importantly in tutoring my peers and other students younger than me in high school on a variety of relevant curriculum. Studying Philosophy at Grinnell College, ultimately earning a BA, gave me the tools I need to communicate effectively, both in the written format and verbally, in order to succeed in transferring, collaborating on, and learning highly analytical concepts with others.

Most of my experience has been as an engineer. I have worked on projects in Europe, Asia, and all over North America. I got involved tutoring high school students while my sons were in high school. Recently, I completed an MA in Education, and taught science and math for about a year and a half in a couple of Louisiana High Schools. I have a broad background for providing real-world examples of implementations of math and science.
I enjoy seeing expressions of accomplishment when students truly grasp various concepts. I expect and demand "excellence," recognizing that "excellence" is a term relative to the student.
