While pursuing my Master's degree, I taught several sections on Civil Engineering principles. I also held office hours to tutor students in any other classwork where they were in need of assistance. Subjects ranges from physics to structural mechanics to hydrology to fluid mechanics.
My teaching style is perhaps not as Socratic as I would prefer. I first elucidate the principles being considered, and then use a practical means to illustrate and work with that principle. I like to have the student learn to derive what is being taught for themselves. That way the material will stay with them. Grounding the material being learned in some real-life experience makes knowledge meaningful and useful. That is what I endeavor to achieve.

I offer a tailored approach to each student, establishing the particular areas of strength and weakness. I aim to establish or reestablish interest in math and also to teach exam techniques. My tutoring is to focus and prior knowledge and to reinforce new information to the student. Mainly I want each student to know the concept of math not to just memorize formulas which they tend to forget. I focus in making a connection and in understanding the concept.
I have a degree in mathematics from UC Santa Cruz. My motto is one that I adapted from my high school, which is learn by doing. Most students aren't auditory learners, so if I simply spout off a bunch of facts or a mathematical process, then chances are they won't learn anything. After laying the foundation first, the best method of learning is for the student to actually do it themselves. This method of learning by doing has been effective and makes both teaching and learning fun and enjoyable.
