I lived in Belarus from ages 13 to 20 with my parents, who were missionaries. I learned to speak, read, and write in Russian within the first year. I served in our local church by teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, helping in summer camps, leading youth group activities, translating for American visitors, and generally being quite involved in all aspects of my parents' ministry. I am now married with two children, ages 9 and 6. My top priority has always been my family, specifically being physically present as much as possible. My comments on tutoring Homework Help : No hovering! Great patience!

I have tutored my friend's daughter in math and English. I have assisted her with science and social studies projects. Her ADHD can inhibit the learning process, but we are able to work through the problems. Learning about weighted blankets helped me work with her. She is a kinetic learner. my nieces are both visual learners. I have to adapt to each learning style.
Teaching brings me pleasure. What I do is to show them, help them, then have them do whatever I am teaching them to do. Sometimes one of the steps may have to be repeated, but this process really works well.

I love to help children understand a subject better. It is a great feeling to see a student get the idea after being helped. I believe that every student is capable of learning; it all depends on their learning style. In my masters program and while I have been teaching, I have learned many ways to get students engaged in the material they are learning. Some students learn better with one on one and some do better with group work. You just have to try different approaches until you see which one works best.
