A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching is to explain the how and why and then immediately have the student perform a task - hopefully on his own, but with assistance if needed. I then repeat that until a student will take on a challenge and do the tasks solely by himself. I love making a difference in a future adult's knowledge base and skills. I use a lot of positive reinforcement and praise, am professional, considerate and passionate about quality teaching.
I received a BS degree from UTC and taught at DuPont Elementary for 8 years, taught for PC training organizations & then managed a training program at Chattanooga State Technical Community College where I wrote all manuals, taught all classes, & designed all testing. As a graduate of both Purdue University and the University of Kansas, I place a premium of education in my own life. In my view, education is never wasted and helps people to understand various facets of the world we live. As an undergraduate at Purdue, I tutored other undergraduates with college algebra during my last year. I found these students benefitted greatly from my tutoring. On average, the students improved their test scores by two letter grades. In having the opportunity to once again tutor students, I feel I will have made a difference in the lives of those students.

My goal is to help each child reach his or her potential. The best way to do this, is to first identify the child's learning style. When this is defined, projects should be tailored to fit that style. I prefer to use a hands-on approach to any subject and present each idea being studied in numerous ways.
During the past two years, I have taught Medical Terminology at the college level. Previously, I wrote and presented workshops for early childhood education teachers. Not only did this allow me to teach, it required me to continue my education in all academic areas. With a bachelor degree in Human Services Management and an associate degree in Medical Technology, I have gained much experience in Math, Science, Management and Public Speaking.
