LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. In order to be successful students need to be engaged by creative teachers. My teaching experience has taught me to accommodate these needs when developing lesson plans.
I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with an AA in Elementary Education. I passed the NYS Teacher's Assistant Skills Test in 2006. I worked at BOCES as a tutor. I tutored high school, middle school and elementary school students. I also worked in the BOCES classrooms as a teacher's aide. I worked at BOCES for 3 years. I also worked at Happiness House as a substitute residential aide, and my duties included helping young residents with their homework and reading with them. I must also mention that I helped my own two children with their homework, and now I help their young children with their work.
If I am tutoring a young person I contact the teacher so that I can find out what areas the student needs review in. Many times the teacher will give me the resources and materials to use. Also, I like to use the guide books for each grade that are sold in ... read more

While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.
I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. Also, if the student's teacher stays positive and pushes him or her towards success by means of positive reinforcement they will succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a high school special education teacher with a primary focus on ELA. Currently, I co-teach in integrated classrooms, grades 9, 11, and 12, with regular education teachers and we have designed a curriculum focusing on intensive writing to assist our students in passing the NYS ELA Regents. We have a 91% passing success rate for both regular education and special needs students. My strategies with special needs students is designed around their disability and I work with them on “coping” mechanisms to level the playing field to allow them to be successful on exams and in life. I have had experience with individual tutoring of students out on medical leave in my district as well as working with the 21st Century Program which is run through the state on a grant. I look forward to continuing helping others be successful with reading and writing.

I have been teaching for 21 years now (wow, that's gone by fast!) and I love every second of what I do. I have also been a tutor in the district for the past 9 years, tutoring every subject possible--math, English, Social Studies, etc. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to get to know students who don't take French and also I love to teach other subjects outside my own area. Teaching is the best job there is--I get such a great energy from my students every day! I rarely miss a day of school, and I look forward to going in to work every morning. Everyone should be so lucky to have a job they absolutely love!
My teaching style.... depends on the day, depends on the students, depends on the topic. One minute I can be dancing around the room and the next we're having a more serious discussion. My expectations are very high and I always push my students to do "just a bit bet ... read more

Effective teaching comes by teaching the student to learn how to learn. All people are generally intelligent, but in different aspects of intelligence. All people can learn, but at varying speeds. Learning how to learn is increasing the speed of learning in those aspects of intelligence in which one is inept. Chemistry is a very abstract science, and many people find it confusing. Chemistry requires all the faculties of teaching, like 3D visual aids, memory tricks, and most importantly, analogies. I often consider chemistry a science of analogies. Concepts in chemistry are also like bricks to the over all edifice of its understanding. Often times students don't understand one concept because they don't thoroughly understand another. My teaching style varies from individual to individual because everybody learns differently. Sometimes just re-phrasing the same concept differentl ... read more

I feel it is important to understand what is different and unique about every student. Not all students will learn in the same way, nor will they find their desire to learn in the same way. I feel it is my duty as a teacher to find what these ways are for every student. Differentiation is vital to the learning process and can only be executed effectively if you know your students.
In high school I tutored junior high students who were having trouble in with school. After high school I joined the U.S Navy, where I trained junior personal for three years. I used my G.I bill Benefits to attend the University of Connecticut, where I received my Bachelors in History with a minor in Political Science. I stayed at the UConn to complete my Masters in Education where I complete 15 weeks of student teaching. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught now for 5 years. 6th grade for 2, 5th grade for 2, and tutored as well as substitute taught for several districts in the area. I recently graduated from SUNY Oswego with a MSed in literacy, grades B-6 and have a BS in childhood education. I establish a rapport with my students and their parents, with the understanding that their needs are my primary concern. Lesson preparation is extensive, with goal setting in mind at all times. I have high expectations for my students. Student achievement, in and out of the classroom, is a personal goal.
Because I was a "non-tradional" student, one with my own children, I knew several things from the start: first and foremost, I will always treat students the way I wish my own children are treated by their teachers. In addtion, I have an understanding that not all children, nor adults, learn the same and need to be offered a variety ... read more

As a Syracuse University graduate, I studied at the Maxwell School and the Whitman School of management. Maxwell is recognized worldwide for its expertise in public policy and economics. I have taken 3 courses in statistics, 1 in calculus and 1 econometric course which is statistics and calculus combined. Also, because I was enrolled in 2 separate programs I have taken 15 credits of natural science and 12 credits of english. I feel well polished in many areas of academia and I work well with students, considering there are 8 teachers in my family and I've been around the teaching environment for quite some time.
I'm very laid back and patient when it comes to teaching. I can empathize with students who have difficulty in a subject because at one point in my educational career I had trouble and needed help. I do believe that almost every one is capable of learning and progressing, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of a small, liberal arts college, I feel that I have a unique perspective on learning. With over 50 credits for my BS in Biochemistry as well as my “core” (including English, Philosophy, Religion, and History), I consider myself far more well-rounded than other graduates. Because of the small, family-oriented atmosphere I learned in, I appreciate and embody hard work, perseverance, and strong interpersonal relationships. As a student, I became very involved in and took leadership roles in extracurricular activities such as: Chemistry Club – president; Biology Club – vice president; Mens Club Volleyball – co-captain and secretary; and Read for the Stars – co-founder, secretary, and fundraising chair.
Teaching is really what I take pride in and consider myself proficient at. As a co-founder of Read for the Stars, I helped developed a program for at risk, elementary lev ... read more

Teaching is my passion. I work extremely well versed at working with kids. I have been working for a before and after school program for 2 years now. I believe in never giving up on any child. In my field experiences I have been in teachers see improvements with their struggling students. In teaching I believe in differentiated instruction. I think it is extremely important to find out what the student it interested in and base their learning off of that weather it be math, reading, or science.

My teaching style is a hands-on-approach. I don't want students to just learn and memorize history; but to enjoy it and see how it relates to their own lives. I use visual, verbal, and tactical aids with each of my lessons. I also strive to include everyone culturally and literally (i.e. if they have IEP's or literacy issues).
I have had two practicum rotations thus far. My first rotation was at C. W. Baker High School, in Baldwinsville, NY. This was a 10th grade, level one Global Studies classroom. I assisted with group activites, and helping students connect the information they were currently learning to prior knowledge. My second rotation was at Grant Middle School, in Syracuse, NY. This is a 7th grade (begining US history) classroom. During this time I taught several lessons, created and administered a pre-test, as well as work one-one with several students that had IEP's and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

You can preach all you want to children, but if you don't teach, there will be no learning. I believe that children will learn from someone they trust to talk to and from someone who they trust to give them the correct answers to their questions. I enjoy being that person. I like being the person who will sit next to them, talk to them, and help them out. I do not want to be the person across from them speaking without any word from my students. I am teacher who provides my students with energy to succeed. I want to keep their attention for as long as I can on the given criteria, boring or not. Sometimes all someone needs to succeed is a little bit of help and who am I to not offer it to them?
I have taught in many areas of study. Since I was young, I taught my younger family members the importance of manners, honesty, care, and responsibility. I believe this has carried into my r ... read more
