If I am tutoring a young person I contact the teacher so that I can find out what areas the student needs review in. Many times the teacher will give me the resources and materials to use. Also, I like to use the guide books for each grade that are sold in stationary areas of most stores. For tutoring in reading I've found the Leapfrog Reading Program is very helpful. I like to meet my students at the library so that I can use the resources found in the library, including the computer. Many times I use educational games because are very useful tools in learning, and they are fun.
I graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with an AA in Elementary Education. I passed the NYS Teacher's Assistant Skills Test in 2006. I worked at BOCES as a tutor. A Little Bit About Me...

I'm very laid back and patient when it comes to teaching. I can empathize with students who have difficulty in a subject because at one point in my educational career I had trouble and needed help. I do believe that almost every one is capable of learning and progressing, given the right opportunity. It makes me feel great to help someone achieve their goals. I'm a personal trainer, which is very similar to tutoring. I love seeing people improve because of my assistance. Many people have helped me get to where I am today and I want to give back to the younger cohort. I'm a leader, I want to lead students in the right direction. It means a lot to me to make a positive difference in this world, and it starts with education of our youth.

Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. I also believe it is easier for a child to ask questions when they are one on one with an educator.
Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need. Through my participation in Mercy Action, I raised money for mentally delayed children, and set up numerous barbeques for them. Later, I began tutoring a young brazilian boy in the 5th grade. He needed help with all of his studies, especially math and english. As a political science major, I have gained experienced in essay writing, grammatical skills and research methods.
