I can relate best with the student/youth.

Very relaxed, easy going, friendly. I feel less pressure and non stressful settings help students learn better. They can relate to a younger person who is more in tune with youth and someone who understands them.
I attended Rufus King World IB High school in Milwaukee, Wi, one of the most prestigious inner city high schools in the country. I excelled in IB Geography, Chorus, and Theatre. I was one of those kids who never did any homework, but passed my tests. Everyone came to me for help on projects, homework, ect. I feel that I didn't fully utilize my strengths in school as I could have, so I would love to share that with those who need it now.

Government is one of my top subjects! I worked in public policy for around 5 years, and took a number of courses in government as an undergrad and graduate student.

I finished as an undergraduate with a major in economics, and minors in history, philosophy and religion. Next I worked for a year as a political risk analyst for a large multinational company helping them evaluate risks inherent to investing in unfamiliar environments. I found I enjoyed the work, but wanted to get more economics training with the hope of teaching economics. I moved from the for-profit company to their non-profit foundation that sponsored economic research, and spent the next 4 years evaluating grants in the area of economics, public policy, law and political science. I always found that one of my favorite parts of my job was teaching those I supervised about economics and government. Accordingly, during that time, I began a doctoral program in economics on a fellowship. After spending a year in the program, I determined I was not as fond of academia as I initially belie ... read more

I believe in letting the child set the pace when it comes to private tutoring. I would listen to child to learn what truly interests them and inspires them. I would then use this is my lessons so they enjoy the learning process. Children enjoy learning anything when it is taught in the appropriate way. I learned this very quickly teaching English to French elementary age students.
I know what it takes to teach and learn a foreign language because I am fluent in French. I was inspired by watching the great teachers that I had in high school and college. I have taught English as a second language, so I have classroom experience to add to my general knowledge of the language and culture.

Teaching is more than passing on information. It is a dynamic process of inspiring a love for learning and equipping students with the tools to learn successfully. It is important to provide students with structure, engaging activities and lessons, and opportunities to integrate and synthesize that which they are learning into 'real-life' experiences. Also, I know each student learns differently, thus I am prepared to vary my approach to meet the needs of each student. I am confident in each student's ability to learn and be successful, and I am committed to achieving those goals.
Successfully earning both my Bachelor's and my Master's, Magna cum Laude, from reputable universities only dimly begins to communicate my passion for learning and for teaching. Further, my experience has developed competencies in oral and written communication, social sciences and humanities, religio ... read more

As the child of a school system administrative professional, I have always spent extra time in the school environment. As a high school freshman I began to tutor elementary school students based on the needs highlighted by their teachers. I spent a lot of time working one on one with English as a secound language students. I assisted with their writting, reading, and basic math skills. Additionally I work particularly well with withdrawn children who need special attention.
My teaching style is simple. As it has not been professionally nurtured I have taken my ques from those I have taught. It is simply to provide what is needed. I prefer to spend time with a student and learn what works for them. I believe trial of multiple styles to find success is critical to each student. Additionally, there is nothing wrong with having fun while you learn!

A Little Bit About Me...

I come from a strong background in community building and civic leadership. I was drawn to teaching by the simple pleasure of working with students and the joy of being able to pass on what I have learned with others. During the last couple of years, I have worked with students of a variety of ages and in a variety of settings. I have experience ranging from teaching high school history, to serving as a volunteer helping guide rising seniors through the complicated college application process. In my Masters of Arts in Teaching, I learned to create lessons to interest and engage all students and I look forward to using my experiences to help students in the Triangle Area.
I believe all growth in the classroom has to come from a positive relationship between the student and the teacher. The excitement of learning can only come in an environment in which the student is comfortabl ... read more

I began 'teaching' as the head wakeboarding instructor at Coble Ski School in Lillington, NC, when I was a junior in high school. Shortly thereafter I took a position working at a beach resort in Pensacola, FL, where I spent an entire summer instructing surfing, kayaking and sailing. At Duke I tutored during each of my four years, either biweekly at a local Durham elementary school or at the Emily K Family Life Center. It is there where I tutored once weekly as a senior, up until I graduated in May. I have tutored in all subjects and all ages up through 22.
When I approach a student I've never worked with, my first priority is to make them feel comfortable by letting them see that I am a very nice, friendly, and compassionate person that they might like to have as a friend. Next I try to get them to tell me about themselves in some way (what they've been working on, their fav ... read more

While maturing through my sixteen years of school, culminating in my graduation from American University, I gained great knowledge and appreciation for education. I have developed my reading and writing skills with my BA in History and have become bilingual by moving to France helping me earn my BA in French Studies. In high school, I tutored a younger high school student in Spanish. I was an Assistant Sunday School Teacher in high school, as well, teaching kids ages six to thirteen. My credentials show I can tutor students in French, History, reading and writing composition, however, I also believe I would be an excellent math tutor.
I enjoy teaching and interacting with children. I believe every child possesses the potential to learn anything. All they have to do is work for that knowledge. Rather than tell the student the answer, I find a way to allow the student to disco ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas.
I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.

As a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I have a proven track record of success. I am currently pursuing a MS Degree at Full Sail University and my current GPA is a 4.0. I completed my BA degree in Music in 2007. While studying at UNC I took extensive course in Education and during that time was pursuing an Education Degree as part of the NC Teaching Fellows Program.
