I can relate best with the student/youth.

I attended Rufus King World IB High school in Milwaukee, Wi, one of the most prestigious inner city high schools in the country. I excelled in IB Geography, Chorus, and Theatre. I was one of those kids who never did any homework, but passed my tests. Everyone came to me for help on projects, homework, ect. I feel that I didn't fully utilize my strengths in school as I could have, so I would love to share that with those who need it now.

I have my degree in Elementary Education. I have had experience teaching large class sizes, but I have also spent a lot of time in small group reading instruction, and I have worked in small group math. I tutored a kindergarten girl to improve her phonemic awareness. I tutored Language Arts in elementary school after school hours. I worked at a day care for 5 years and helped students with their homework after school.

I teach with the assumption that everyone can learn anything. At the core of my teaching philosophy is the mental model or concept. Consequently, my first goal is to determine if the student has a mental model of the subject matter. If not, I will guide them in discovering a useful one using their existing models and their preferred input mode (tactile, visual, etc.). After the children have dicscovered the concept and have small understanding of that concept, I will then come in with the lecture and note taking to clarify any misconceptions. My teaching style is simple. As it has not been professionally nurtured I have taken my ques from those I have taught. It is simply to provide what is needed.
