In 2006 I attended Pacific Lutheran University earning my masters degree in educational leadership with endorsements in special education, reading, and elementary education. After graduate school, I found a job in a middle school EBD classroom. Here I designed my own behavior management program, managed education plans, and created lessons that were exciting and engaging for my students. I worked in this classroom for 2 years. A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored four different children (1st-5th grade) over the course of four years for the Teton Literacy Program, a non-profit group located in Jackson, Wyoming. I met with each child after school at the facility or the local public library for hour-long sessions, working on grammar, pronunciation, and writing, focusing on each students' strengths and weaknesses and helping them catch up to their appropriate grade level as well as building their confidence. In addition, I worked on the I-CAN book project, through the Literacy Program, coaching a second grade class with the creation and assimilation of a story book.

I have found that tutoring sessions are most effective when they are fun! Many students find it difficult to stay focused, especially after a full school day. For this reason, I prefer to change tasks frequently and use a variety of fun games to switch up the pace of the session. Learning can be frustrating for many students when a particular subject does not come as naturally or easily as other subjects. Thus, I do my best to incorporate student's interests into reward systems and constantly give the student positive feedback about their progress to help motivate the student.
