I question the students as to what he or she intended to say in their writing, what is the intent of the paper--will this persuade the reader, inform the reader, compare/contrast ideas-- and see if the writer is in fact accomplishing this goal through effect word choices, sound reasoning, specific examples, and other components of writing. The hope is to edit the document for clarity geared towards the reader of the document and to polish the writing skills of the student.
