I will receive my bachelors degree in mathematics from Purdue University in May 2012; however I began my college career in math education so I have taken many methods/teaching courses. In the past I have done short-term tutoring for algebra/pre-algebra, geometry, high school calculus (calc 1), and algebra II. I have also tutored in English as a second language, specifically for native Spanish speakers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to try to explain concepts in a way that I believe my student will find easy to understand. If I find that they do not understand I will try a different method of explaining the concept. I often like to use sketches so students can visualize what is being taught or story problems so they can see some practical applications of how the concept can be used to solve problems.
Having enjoyed mathematics and especially calculus in high school, I decided to major in Mechanical Engineering so that I would be able to enjoy the many math courses that were required. I excelled in Calculus during my studies at Pensacola Christian College. With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. My teaching style depends on the student. It takes some time to identify what methods work best on the individual. In most cases, the student just needs a clearer explanation than his/her book or instructor is providing. Also, I like to create visual examples that make an abstract concept into something more practical. A thorough explanation coupled with examples and practice, practice, practice usually prove to help tremendously.
