A Little Bit About Me...

I've been informally teaching for around 7 years, starting with private percussion lessons and high school drumline instruction and most recently tutoring through the Migrant Education Program in the subject areas of English as a Second Language, math, science, and Spanish. I am a current Geography Teacher Education student at Illinois State University minoring in Spanish. I will receive my license after completing my student teaching requirement in the spring of 2015.
I propone an exploratory, learn-by-doing philosophy regarding education; I believe that students are best served producing their own inquiries (guided by an educator), and then seeking resolution through gathering information. Nevertheless, all students learn differently and I pride my ability to adapt to certain situations and provide the healthiest learning environment for my students that I can.

I have worked as a teacher of English as a Second Language at two elementary level schools in Paris, France, as a private French tutor, and as an elementary writing/composition tutor. My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to r ... read more

Children are the future. All throughout history, life has all been about things to pass on to the future generation. I am here to ensure that one day your children will have things to pass on as well. I am patient, laid back, and self-less. My dream is to be at the best of my ability. Kids always have people they look up to and I feel I can provide that desired role model. Kids can reach maximum potential if they receive proper encouragement, work hard, show respect, and can have fun. Looking back, I'm sure we can all see the people that taught us, and remember the ones that helped us the most. My purpose to provide that to all of my student's lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the process of really getting to know a student on an individual level. That is crucial to determine their learning style and their strengths. It is incredibly rewarding to experience a student's progression and also to learn from them in ways you wouldn't expect. I believe children should feel comfortable in an academic setting and believe that they can succeed. It is important to help students develop a positive attitude towards life long learning.

My knowledge in the area of psychology of education helps me greatly understand that everybody has a different learning style. If everybody has a different learning style, teaching cannot perform in an uniform manner. It must be varied in order to meet every student's need. Being an educator I know some students are visual others are auditive. With the visual students teaching must include images and with the auditive students sounds must be used. With this two learning styles and more in mind, I always believe every student can succeed academically.
Teaching has always been my passion. To be equiped for that, I went to school and earned a BS in Sciences of education. This degree not only prepares me to teach subjects like French, history, math, but also it helps me to perform school administration work.
