Highly Experienced Teacher/Director looking to help students

My experience entails a well rounded experience of teaching students from preK to adult. My most important position was acting as Director of Education for Sylvan Learning, where I basically ran the learning center. I supervised teachers and all student programs, conferred with parents from the beginning to the end of their experience with Sylvan, and did so much more to develop a positive experience with all clients and teachers involved. I have taught Elementary Level, High School Level, and substitute taught in Middle School Level. I worked for a company called SmartApple, where we graded statewide standardized testing. My specialty was in marking the writing portion. I have so much more experience, and I love helping students to succeed at any age. Please contact me for further information on how my qualifications can match your needs.

Writing, reading, and english have always been my passions. I don't have any formal training within the english tutoring or teaching worlds; however, I have always been a "go-to" for friends and classmates whenever they had questions or concerns about their assignments. Next fall I will be heading back to school in order to obtain my teaching credentials, and in the meantime, I thought that I would use my talents to help others.

A Little Bit About Me...

I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.
I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.

Since 2000, I have tutored students of all levels in a variety of subjects. During my undergraduate studies, I earned a BA in communication (public relations) and specialized in political science. At that time, I was trained through 4H America Reads to teach young, multilingual students how to read. While not tutoring, I practice criminal law. My job requires me to write and speak to an array of audiences each day. I also make appearances at local schools and libraries for presentations. Contact me if you need help with any project or report, reading, writing, vocabulary, business, government and study skills.
I began tutoring K through 5th graders at an elementary school. Many of my students only spoke Spanish at home. From then, I continued tutoring elementary school students with a wide range of abilities. A few of my students were gifted, and we worked on sharpening their alre ... read more

I have not only graduated college with a BA in Communications and a specialization in journalism, I am also currently enrolled back in school to earn additional credits for my teaching certification. I will have my CE by the end of Summer 2011. I have interned/worked in NY for HUGO BOSS CO headquarters, Meredith Publishing Company (Ladies’ Home Journal and American Baby Magazines), and was the lead writer for Fahrenheit Media Group. I have tutored adolescent community members in the past on their writing/reading abilities, and results were evident.
I would describe my style with one word, "patient." I have a creative approach, an outgoing personality, and an encouraging demeanor. I am after results; I feel that every individual person benefits from various learning techniques and "one certain way" may not work with every student. A degree in the specific subject area, another soon- ... read more

While a student at Penn State University, I worked hard to obtain a 4 year degree in English in just 3 1/2 years. During my time there, I served as a Writer for the College of Agricultural Sciences News, an Acquisitions Intern at Penn State Press, a Writing Tutor at Penn State Learning, and as a Teacher's Assistant for a specialized class in the College of the Liberal Arts. As a professional, I have spent time working at Princeton University Press and also as a freelance copyeditor. I have knowledge of both APA and MLA citation styles, and have an intimate knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style as well. I have worked with all age groups and experience levels, and have also spent time working with ESL students.

Through my experience with Big Brothers Big Sisters and MAXIM Healthcare Services, I have tutored many children with different educational backgrounds that required different concentrated attention. I gauge how I tutor a child by their personal needs. I take the time needed to understand the child’s personality and listen to which is their preferred style of learning. I choose to gain their trust and build their confidence immediately. Used techniques are: verbal (lecture), visual (flashcards, diagrams, etc.), repetition (both verbal and visual), games, question and answer sessions, and more. It is most important to use the method that is the most effective to the child’s educational and emotional needs.
During my journey to complete my B.S. of Biology at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey I was inspired to help others educate themselves. I informally tutored my peers in bi ... read more

I am passionate about learning and education. As a native of Princeton, NJ, I have tutored Princeton students in English for almost 20 years. I have also tutored in Spanish (in which I hold a BA) and French (I resided in France for 3 years). I have a wide variety of business skills, and hold a Master's degree in International Business. I have excellent communications and interpersonal skills and look forward to meeting your tutoring and learning needs. (Me gustaria mucho ayudarle)
I like to adapt my style to the student's personality and learning style. Some students learn best through visual methods, some auditory and some prefer experiential learning. While textbooks often provide a good foundation, I like to use "real world" teaching if possible. For example, I might have a student act out a situation (renting a car, for example) that he or she may encounter in real l ... read more

I love teaching! Nothing makes me happier than teaching a student a difficult problem. I am extremely patient, easy going, considerate and honest. My goal is to provide the best education at the adequate pace for the student. I love reinforcing concepts so that my students are able to conceptually understand what they are learning. I also relate problems with one another so that the student can understand the basis of what they've learned and why its important as well.
As an Ivy League graduate, I am motivated to achieve a high level of excellence in education.
