More About This Tutor...

Over the years (as undergrad and graduate), I have tutored middle school and elementary age students in various subjects. I have also been a resource for undergrad and graduate health science students while serving as a graduate assistant (public health master's program). I proctored exams and held tutoring and review sessions prior to testing. I have two master's degrees, three undergraduate degrees, and experience as a paramedic, nurse, and substitute teacher.
I believe in completing an individual needs assessment and designing a study approach around that assessment. I believe in constant reinforcement and reassessment. I also believe it is useful to utilize as many and as varied forms of instruction as possible (written, audio-visual, demonstration, etc.) to solidify a concept. Promoting thorough understanding rather than route memory and recognition skills is paramount.

More About This Tutor...

I am a Systems Engineer with a BS in Business and a MS in Computer Science. Systems Engineering involves getting disparate systems, equipment, and/or people to work together to accomplish a goal. It requires broad knowledge of many subjects and the ability to communicate that knowledge, clearly and unambiguously, either orally or in writing, to others. I am a former naval officer with a current TS/SCI clearance. To maintain this clearance I must remain above reproach in all conduct, public and private. I am currently writing a Science Fiction novel for publication. I am a regular public speaker.
The method of teaching used will depend on the subject and student. As a general rule, I prefer method of explanation, demonstration, and drill. The person being tutored must have a desire to learn. This can be fostered in children by explaining how they will benefit from learning t ... read more

Through my extensive coursework and research and practical application in the classroom, I found quite quickly that there are several different learning styles. It is important to create lessons that they are approachable for visual learners, auditory learners, kinesthetic learners and so forth. It is vital to get to know your students from the start and to see how they learn and operate best, hence making instruction to overall fit their needs making them perform better academically. I am responsible, highly organized, and driven. I am patient, as is necessary when teaching elementary students, and I take my work to heart. I greatly care about what I do, as hopefully all educators do. I have seen the great impact that kindness and extra help can have with young students, and I hope to bring these qualities to your company though tutoring.
I have experience with teaching having ... read more

More About This Tutor...

The most important element of achieving success in school is self confidence. The way I help build that in children is by being extremely positive, supportive, and full of praise. I observe their behavior carefully to make sure they truly understand what they are being taught. When something is challenging to a child, I try different methods until I know it “clicked”. Another very important part of tutoring is communicating with the students’ guardians about their behavior or any stressors. When I know what external factors are affecting a child, I can be better prepared for our session.
Throughout college I was a tutor with a Learning Center. I worked with children in grades K-12. At this center, we helped build reading and math skills individually and in groups. I was also a private tutor for a high school student. Together we improved her study skills and organization. I assis ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I taught 8th through 10th grade at a Christian School in Ludowici. I taught every subject, but never a math course higher then Algebra 1.
I am a firm believer that the best way to learn varies from subject to subject. When I taught math my view was that the best way to teach was to break everything down into a step by step process and have the students memorize the process. Most other subjects can be learned through repitition, but math requires everything to be broken down.
