Once I graduated I was immediately hired as a long term substitute teacher in South Georgia. I wasn't offered a teaching job for the next school year so I moved here to Spartanburg, SC. I obtained a job at a headstart and a tutoring facility.Then in November 2012 I was hired on at SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. I have taught and tutored many students and adults in a variety of subjects. I enjoy tutoring in math the most because I love this subject. Although this is my favorite, I still enjoy helping people excel in troubling subject areas. As a teacher, I know that each student/ person learns in a different manner. Due to this my teaching methods vary with every person.

I enjoy working with elementary aged children. I believe that all children want to learn but all have individual styles that an instructor must recognize. You can actually see the "a-ha" factor when a child has processed and understood something. That is my favorite expression. It looks like surprise and joy all in one facial expression. I stoped working in education and now realize that I need to be in a classroom setting working with children. I believe it is my natural calling and I plan to be a memorable instructor/tutor. As an instructional assistant for kindergarden I was responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with daily instrucion and activities. I provided individual instruction when needed and assisted in developing behavior modificaion plans.

I believe in completing an individual needs assessment and designing a study approach around that assessment. I believe in constant reinforcement and reassessment. I also believe it is useful to utilize as many and as varied forms of instruction as possible (written, audio-visual, demonstration, etc.) to solidify a concept. Promoting thorough understanding rather than route memory and recognition skills is paramount. Over the years (as undergrad and graduate), I have tutored middle school and elementary age students in various subjects. I have also been a resource for undergrad and graduate health science students while serving as a graduate assistant (public health master's program). I proctored exams and held tutoring and review sessions prior to testing. I have two master's degrees, three undergraduate degrees, and experience as a paramedic, nurse, and substitute teacher.

My experience in the education field may be a very short period of time, but the work and effort that I've put into my work has proved to be nothing short of successful. I have earned my bachelor's degree of arts in Early Childhood Education, which has enabled me to experience and understand the needs of children. I have a profound and growing desire to be an outstanding role model to the growing minds of today. In my short years of working, I have provided care for young children, tutored and aided children with school work in an after school program, and taught reading and math in the elementary school setting.
