My comments on tutoring Special Education : I am certified teacher at the Master's level with certifications for early childhood, elementary, special education, ESL and reading specialist. I am trained in Orton Gillingham and the Wilson program.

I use a multi-sensory approach when teaching to meet the student's needs. I also incorporate lots of games and personal experience to make it fun and engaging.
I graduated from Arcadia University with a Bachelor's degree in education from Arcadia University in 2014. I then went on to earn my Master's degree in education a year later from Arcadia University. Since that time, I was a classroom teacher for special needs students in an elementary setting and the lead EC teacher at my school and served on our student support team and school improvement team before becoming a district educational diagnostician. I have been tutoring since high school and have worked with students from preschool to college. I have been trained in the Wilson and Orton Gillingham reading approaches as well as mindfulness for children and teens.

Special Tutor/Teacher

I have taught school for 29 1/2 years in Special Education . My positions were in Preschool Special Needs, Elementary Special Needs, and High School Occupational Course of Study. I have taught in both SC and NC. I love teaching preschool -elementary students. I have always had a passion for teaching because both of my grandmothers and my mother were teachers. Now my 3 sisters are teachers.
I try to teach by the style that seems to be the best for that student to learn. I am very patient and realize that each student takes a varied amount of time to grasp material. Hands on materials and fun activities are great ways to keep the student engaged.

Turning your weakness into your strength

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"

Helping children work through learning issues is my passion.

When working from my office, I like to use hands on activities that keep children engaged. However, since working online I use many different websites and materials that allow children to be actively engaged. I use Orton Gilligham and Wilson reading programs as well as my own materials. Helping children with learning issues is something I am very passionate about. Building self confidence is key to growing and learning.

I now tutor children from the Zoom platform since I cannot see them in my office due to the pandemic. I have been doing private tutoring for 2 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

The first thing that I try to do is get to know my client, mainly focusing on what they both like and dislike about school. Then we narrow it down even further to the subject that they are having problems in. I ask them what they think the problem is, find out what the school/teacher thinks the problem is (through review of their coursework including past homework and tests) and come up with a solution that will benefit the student, teacher, and parent to improve and fix the situation.
I recently relocated to the Huntersville area. I recently graduated from UNCW with a degreee in Psychology with a focus on children. Since middle school, working with children has been my passion. I realized my dream after some of my cousins came over to America from the war torn country of Liberia and were having a very hard time adjusting. I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill's Master's Program for R ... read more

The rapport I had with my students allowed me gain knowledge of their unique learning styles and designed my lesson plans to capture the needs of the child as an individual. My paid professional teaching experince includes one year working as a Special Education Paraprofessional for 2-4 grade stundents classified with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. My undergraduate degree from Valdosta State University was in music education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I excel in creating developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs of children in authentic ways. I approach teaching through play. I feel it is important for young children to learn through daily hands on activities and experiences that support learning in concrete ways. Children can learn from everything around them, they simply need an attentive adult who can help tune them in to the environment and capitalize on their learning potential. This is true for all areas of academic and pre-academic skills.
