I have 22 years of nursing experience, and 19 years of teaching in the nursing fields, including high school allied health courses. My basic teaching style is to get to know the child and his or her strengths, create a loving and safe space where he or she can experience self expression, exploration, making choices, problem solving, being aware of his or her skills and talents. While some teachers favor a direct instruction approach, I try to tailor my instruction to the growing and diverse needs of each student. Some are more auditory learners than others, therefore, for those you would need a lot of teaching by rote, i.e "do as I do", so to speak.
My paid professional teaching experince includes one year working as a Special Education Paraprofessional for 2-4 grade stundents classified with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. My undergraduate degree from Valdosta State University was in music education.
