Master's Level Tutuor- Looking to help our Youth

I have worked with many children and adolescents, for the past 8 years, mentoring and tutoring. I enjoy working with our youth and feel that education is very important, especially in today's society. I understand that each individual learns differently, and that it is important to cater to each individual's needs. I also feel that learning can be fun, as well. I took advantage of opportunities (to help further my education) that I was given, when I was younger, and feel that it is important to give back.

I enjoy helping people, children and adults. I know that everyone can learn with the proper teaching method. My tutoring technique incorporates various learning styles. I use visual aids, such as flash cards and color codes, to help my students understand the concepts. Additionally, I encourage my students to take notes and read aloud to assist them in solving the problems. These tools help me to design an individualized lesson plan for my students. I strive to make learning an adventurous journey, rather than a tedious task.

I have always valued education. I can remember comparing grades and discussing what we learned in class as early as 2nd grade. We had a healthy competitive spirit that helped us grown into productive adults. I first began tutoring in an afterschool program in 1995. I have always loved assisting students with learning. I have even considered getting my teaching certification. I currently have my MBA in Business management and feel most comfortable teaching math reading and English to children ages 5-12.
I love all children. I believe all children learn in different ways. it's up to us to determine what workds for them and help them acquire the knowledge they need. I liken tutoring sessions to the repair of a crumbling pyramid. I believe that every student is capable of learning and understanding the material that is presented to them in class, but that due to some reason, he or she does not understand some of the basic concepts that later material adds onto. Hence, the base of their pyramid is unstable. Usually in the first tutoring session, I try to gauge where the student is supposed to be in the material while at the same time trying to figure out where the missing foundation stones are. Once key concepts are explained, I then give students some examples to bolster their confidence and to be sure that they have learned the material.
I have 6 years experience tutoring various aspects of math and chemistry to individuals of all ages: I was varsity captain of my high school math team and led tutoring sessions for algebra, geometry, trigo ... read more

I enjoy working with middle and high school age students. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching and I love helping students understand more in their English classes. I am very passionate about reading and proper grammar and get so happy when I see a student's face light up in understanding of a new concept. If the first method I use to teach a new concept doesn't work, I try a different approach to make sure all students are able to understand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children. I think it is a pleasure to teach children how to become positive role models, and great leaders. In today's society many children learn in different ways. For example some like to listen, and some like to take notes. I think the importance of teaching is making sure each child knows the concept, and material.Being able to listen to your students is an important part of being able to teach. Most children open up more when they feel the teacher understands. I would love to help change a childs life.
I graduated from Paine College with a BA. While in college I had the opportunity to experience working with many different students. My social work degree has allowed me to gain knowledge in areas such as: working with homeless people, working with children that came from unstable households, and much more. In addition I joined a sorority which has allowed ... read more
