As an undergraduate student at both my junior college and university, I was inspired to spread the joy of learning and understanding English. I have earned a BA in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, which has enabled me to expand my knowledge base about international affairs and the maritime industry. This coming March I will graduate with a MS degree in Emergency Management. This degree has given me a fantastic background in understanding leadership and management techniques. I hold a BA in English from Saint Olaf College and studied a variety of subjects during my time in the Liberal Arts program. My math teaching experience has been primarily with students who didn't "get it" when they first took classes at a particular level of mathematics. My focus has been to take the material and translate it from the often-impenetrable form found in textbooks to a more accessible, practical presentation. I prefer to characterize mathematics as a language skill where, as in most language classes, exposure to a idea should be followed by enough repeated practice to develop a confidence in its implementation.
