LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. In order to be successful students need to be engaged by creative teachers. My teaching experience has taught me to accommodate these needs when developing lesson plans.
I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.

I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. Also, if the student's teacher stays positive and pushes him or her towards success by means of positive reinforcement they will succeed.
While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.

As a chiropractor and business owner, I am teaching everyday. People need to understand how to create health and that they have the potential to be the engineer of their lives. Wellness and personal development are the keys to vitalistic living but easily overlooked in our stressful world that emphasizes the mechanistic, "react to crisis" mode of function. I am reversing a great deal of old thinking, which can be daunting but very satisfying when someone I am teaching and coaching finally experiences personal success.
I like to motivate with stories and interactive discussion. Most of my teaching involves drawing out someone's talents and inspiring them to reach for something better in themselves. There is a great deal of fear and trepidation when someone tries to change anything whether it is health behaviors, relationships, personal performance, etc. My secondary purpose is ... read more

I taught Office Technology to adults for ten years. I have been subbing K-6 for the past two years in local school districts. Adult educations consisted of computer applications, business math and English, filing, and job search skills. Now I work with kids who have difficulty in a traditional setting.
My teaching style is one on one with students making continuous progress at their own paces. I love to work with elementary students aged ten and under. Working with non-tradionat students was fun and challenging. I had to relate to them differently (of course) from the younger kids.

I am a big believer of differentiated instruction. I believe all children learn in different ways – whether it be as an auditory, kinesthetic, or visual learner. As a teacher, I know that not every child is going to fit into my lesson plans; therefore, I modify my lesson plans to meet the different goals of my students. I am also a believer of small learning groups – groups that are tailored to the meet the needs of the students. I want all my students to excel academically and enjoy learning. I love watching my students reach their goals and how accomplished they feel.

I think that my teaching experience speaks for itself.. I'm capable of working with all ages.. preferring teenagers because I like bigger challenges. I'm patient, easy going o one hand but firm with homework\tasks on the other hand.I'm a great believer in leading the student to the answer rather than telling it. I believe that the fact that I'm the founder of a tutoring company in Israel gave me the ability to criticize&improve my work more effectively.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent much of my time helping others to improve in many areas of life. I just graduated from graduate school to obtain a masters degree in counseling services. This has provided me with the certification required to work in a school as a guidance counselor. While attending graduate school I continued my coaching at the 7th and 8th grade level as a head wrestling coach and two years (1 yr JV) coaching football. I have also spent the past four years as a substitute teacher for all ages and subjects. I have also been a private tutor in which I provided instructional support for students individually in academics, as well as improving self-concept, goal setting, coping mechanisms, and social and organizational skills.
I pride myself on helping to create and improve a vast array of skills while providing the students with a strong foundation of what it takes to be life-long learners. ... read more

My passion for teaching children is immense. I feel that each child has a unique way of learning and is able to reach their full potential through different avenues of learning. I am energetic, encouraging, and patient - all qualities that will further enhance any student's learning career.

I have taught both general and special education students and feel that I would be a great tutor to any student in need of reaching their potential.

Throughout my undergraduate time at Le Moyne College, I worked as both a tutor and substitute teacher. After graduation, I continued to work as a tutor and teacher while I pursued my Master's Degree. Once I finished graduate school I began teaching full time as a Special Education teacher. I have worked with students in all grades ranging from Kindergarten through grade 12. I have experience tutoring in all subject areas.
I really enjoy working with students of all ages. One of my favorite parts about being a tutor is working with students in small group or 1:1 settings. I have a great deal of experience working with both students with disabilities and students without disabilities. I believe that each student is different and tutoring allows for the student to focus on the way that they learn best. I can identify and help students with learning disabilities because I myself have a learning disability. Although I myself was considered to be a slow learner and I had (and still have) dyslexia, I never the less taught myself how to study and how to get through high school, college, and graduate school. I can help the students on their own level because I have been there and I know how frustrating it can be to have to study without having the right tools. I not only tutor students but I also give them the right tools to be able to study and learn for themselves.
I have spent most of my career in helping students with learning challenges and other special needs. My strongest asset is that I am very good at teaching students on a one-to-one basis. I have tutored a lot of students who are considered to be slow learners or who have some kind of learning disability. When I first starte ... read more

As an elementary teacher, professional development facilitator, and county-level curriculum supervisor, I have spent 33 years providing effective instruction in all subject areas. My work with elementary students focused on providing quality instruction in reading and writing. As a supervisor of language arts, I was responsible for providing instruction to teachers enabling them to be effective instructors of reading, writing, and speaking. Also, I taught pre-service and graduate level teachers in mathematics curriculum/instruction. As a retired educator, I work with refugees so that they can perform well at the college level. My communication skills are strong and with my technological knowledge, I am able to provide focused instruction based on students' needs.

I have had two practicum rotations thus far. My first rotation was at C. W. Baker High School, in Baldwinsville, NY. This was a 10th grade, level one Global Studies classroom. I assisted with group activites, and helping students connect the information they were currently learning to prior knowledge. My second rotation was at Grant Middle School, in Syracuse, NY. This is a 7th grade (begining US history) classroom. During this time I taught several lessons, created and administered a pre-test, as well as work one-one with several students that had IEP's and lower literacy levels.
My teaching style is a hands-on-approach. I don't want students to just learn and memorize history; but to enjoy it and see how it relates to their own lives. I use visual, verbal, and tactical aids with each of my lessons. I also strive to include everyone culturally and literally (i.e. if they have IEP' ... read more

My teaching experience ranges from serving as a special education itinerant teacher (SEIT) for young children with special needs to teaching high school English. I am certified in PreK-6 elementary education, English, and special education. While I spent the majority of my teaching career bolstering language skills, specifically reading comprehension and writing, I also taught algebra and biology to high school students as a resource room teacher. Equipped with improved study skills, students have strategies that make them more successful in understanding more sophisticated content.
All children and adolescents can successfully acquire and process new information.
