A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is a facilitating process. I believe it is my job to aide the student in developing a more solid understanding of the coursework in front of them. This may involve explaining the same concept to the child in a variety of ways to help them understand. The child may also just require a patient instructor who is willing to keep practicing until they have reached the mastery stage of learning. Whatever the case may be, a high level of patience, understanding and gentle persistence is necessary in order for the child to feel as though they are making progress and not get discouraged.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always tutored friends and peers in mathematics. I spent the last year helping one of my good friends learn calculus and have volunteered as a tutor at Falmouth High School in Falmouth, Maine in order to help students learn algebra. The link that led me to this application described a position as an algebra tutor, something I would be very willing to do part-time.
I am a college student who has taken calculus, calculus II, and multi-variable calculus. Previous students have often remarked on my practical teaching style, relying on real world examples and explanations for business and mathematics. The only way to remember information long term is to relate it to something tangible, especially in subjects like statistics and economics. Relating the ephemeral to the practical is important, and later allows for the information to be used in a real world setting much, much easier.
