I taught a temporary position in third grade (all subject areas), then was asked by the school superintendent to substitute teach in Junior and Senior High School, and Special Education classes, which I did for four more years before I had to move out-of-state for my ex-husband's job. I just spent the last 15 years working for the NYS Dept. of Corrections in many areas. Initially, it is important that I learn as much as I can about how the student is doing with the topic involved. I try to use diagrams, graphing calculators, and other visual aids as much as possible. When appropriate, I ask the student to explain to me as much as they can about a topic.
