I have taught private violin lessons for ten years to students ranging in age from 4-26. At the University of Alabama, I taught the lab component to Intro into Biology for Non-majors under Dr. Tom Graham and histology under Dr. Jane Rasco. Through the years I have tutored school-age children in all subjects, although I specialize in tutoring math and science. All of my pupils have shown improvement in their scores, with one particular case bringing a failing grade to a C in one reporting cycle.
I prefer a hands-on approach, especially with science and math. I believe an education is more than memorizing definitions but understanding and being able to apply concepts broadly. I received a bachelors degree in both history and sociology which gave me the credentials to teach Sociology 101 classes at the college level while attaining my masters degree, which I then used to teach as an instructor for nine months at two separate colleges. I am finishing up my second masters degree, and want nothing more than to share the knowledge I have learned with others.
I am an active teacher, especially when allowed to create my own curriculum. I love to incorporate lectures with powerpoints, videos with discussions, and book readings with field trips. I think the best way to get young people involved in learning is to keep their minds thinking and never reach the point of predictability. A Little Bit About Me...

I understand the math and science are often difficult for students to comprehend. Many teenagers and young adults feel like they will never use this knowledge in "real life" applications. Thus, when teaching this subjects, I try to draw parallels to real life applications. Often students are surprised to learn that science and math is all around them.
