I am a conversational teacher. I try to always start with where the student is at and build from there. I like listening to students and relating to them at their level and letting them draw from me all that they can take and encourage their learning. I believe the best learning takes place when students are provided the proper atmosphere in which to learn. A Little Bit About Me...

I received a bachelors degree in both history and sociology which gave me the credentials to teach Sociology 101 classes at the college level while attaining my masters degree, which I then used to teach as an instructor for nine months at two separate colleges. I am finishing up my second masters degree, and want nothing more than to share the knowledge I have learned with others.
I am an active teacher, especially when allowed to create my own curriculum. I love to incorporate lectures with powerpoints, videos with discussions, and book readings with field trips. I think the best way to get young people involved in learning is to keep their minds thinking and never reach the point of predictability. The last thing people accuse me of is monotony or predictability, and it is this very quality that keeps then engaged and makes me a very likable and successful educator.

My teaching style exhibits a very individualized, hands-on approach. Even in a classroom with 20-30 students, I attempt to understand individual learning styles and work with students on an individual basis when possible. As a tutor, my approach is not to use a standard approach to which I expect the student to adhere. I feel it is my responsibility to understand how the student learns and comes to understand. I try to set high standards in order to prepare students for future work. I like to ask questions which stimulate students to think about big ideas. I prefer to use Discussion-based teaching when applicable.
