A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with all children of all ages and believe all children can learn, but I've learned that students learn in different ways. As part of that, I love encouraging students to believe in themselves and not settle for the status quo. I am patient, easy going, and considerate, and I want to provide the best education possible. But I also enjoy motivating students to take control of their education. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings, encouragement, tools and learning experiences.
As a Big Ten graduate from Penn State University, I was very much driven to push myself in a wide variety of subjects to achieve a well-rounded education. From childhood, "playing" school was a passion! Afforded an excellent education by teachers, mentors, spiritual guides and community leaders - I'm thrilled to meet today's promising learners with the same measure of affirmation. Every child is talented and gifted. The teacher's role is to design a context for success within which problems are resolved, obstacles dismantled, weaknesses strengthened and doors opened for continued enrichment.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.
I tend to teach things in a visual way. Drawing pictures, diagrams and using visual aides are the best ways I have witnessed to teach kids. I also think a structured reward system is HUGE in motivating kids to succeed. You need to find o ... read more
