I propone an exploratory, learn-by-doing philosophy regarding education; I believe that students are best served producing their own inquiries (guided by an educator), and then seeking resolution through gathering information. I've been informally teaching for around 7 years, starting with private percussion lessons and high school drumline instruction and most recently tutoring through the Migrant Education Program in the subject areas of English as a Second Language, math, science, and Spanish. My comments on tutoring Spanish : I have studied Spanish for 6 years now. I am confident in my speaking, listening and writing skills. My reading skills are a little weaker than the rest of my skills. I spent a couple weeks in Spain and Mexico, not studying but certainly using my language skills.

I will be certified to teach K-12. I believe that the earlier one starts learning a language, the easier it will be for them and the quicker they will learn. While I have recently tutored older students, I have observed and helped teach foreign language classes of all ages.
I am originally from Bloomington, Illinois and am studying French and Spanish Education at Illinois State University. I am in my fifth year right now since I have two teaching majors. I will graduate in May 2014. Since my Junior year of high school, I knew that I wanted to teach French. I believe in taking a casual approach in tutoring. From previous experience, I have found that many times students understand the material but tend to get flustered in a classroom environment. I provide guidance when needed, but sometimes students just need someone there to talk it out with them. If this is the case I like to ask questions until they find the answers themselves. This method not only teaches them the material, but also builds confidence because they realize they can figure out much of it themselves.
