I recently graduated cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with two Bachelors of Science in Marine Geology and Maritime Law. I teach sailing and environmental education in the summers. This means very little however as I aspire, one day, to become a lighthouse keeper. Sadly, few can find such a position these days. I enjoy writing, science, mathematics, literature and most all music. When I taught sailing to young kids, I used to dress up like a pirate. I have lots of energy. I know I'm doing my job right when kids start laughing. When I taught to teenagers, I kept in mind my own experiences at that age. Teaching and working with children has been a love of mine for quite some time now. I feel all student's have the ability to learn but at a pace and level that is comfortable to them. My teaching style reflects my experience working with developmentally delayed students such as those on the Autism Spectrum. I provide a technique which is based on visual learning because I feel when material is drawn out or color coded, children will better grasp it and hold on to it longer. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them. I have always been extremely focused on education, both my own and that of others.
