I pride myself in having completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree when I was 21 years of age. The degree I completed was a Liberal Arts Degree with an emphasis in Philosophy and Minors in English, Spanish and Music. I feel that this type of a degree gives an individual a well rounded and inclusive outlook regarding many subjects, whether it be Math, History, Reading, Science, Music and/or Art. A few years after I received my degree, I acquired a multiple subject teaching credential from Chapman University, which I utilized here in the Santa Maria/Bonita School District for several years. I was a substitute school teacher for K-6 grades, predominately. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, which is a neccesity in the Santa Maria Valley, with such a large number of farmworker families. I also have experience in tutoring and working one on one with students, which is an environment that I pref ... read more

I use a teaching paradigm that stresses the importance of student's needs and learning styles. Every student brings unique skills and perspectives to the classroom and tutor session, and because of this I have found that my teaching strategy changes per student and per teaching situation. For some students, being taught using the socratic method works well, while others like to take notes, absorb the material, then ask questions later during office hours. I have found that understanding student's learning methods have helped me to become a better teacher.
As a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo I was interested in English education, especially in terms of helping students improving their reading and writing skills. I followed this interest by tutoring at the university writing lab, as well as doing frequent one-on-one tutor sessions with students in need. At the end of each quarte ... read more

Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.
I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is one of passions as I am always interested in learning. I feel that the quality of the knowledge obtained rests without doubt in the ambitions the student possesses challenging the teacher to present his best. I have taught and cared after juveniles up to 14 years old, girls, boys, chalenged and all. Planning, daycare and one on one instruction were all on the agenda which helped sharpen my teaching skills
As ambitious a student in the classroom as in life I have completed over 180 college credits at age 24. With a preference in sciences most of these credits were completed however my interest expands far beyond the realm into most every subject. Proof of this is shown by the length of my undergraduate work, six years with enlightening pauses in between to broaden my mind through travel. Biology is my strong suit however math such as physics, calculus and even chemistry ... read more

I am a teacher of 20 years. My experience includes elementary, middle, and high school. I also taught for one year overseas. I have 3 years experience working as a tutor. I possess a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education. During the past 5 years I have worked at a self-paced charter school working with the program ALS. Although my expertise is in social studies, I'm perfectly capable of teaching algebra and language. I also have years of experience in the classroom.
I would describe my teaching style as flexible. I believe that students learn differently and it's up to the teacher to adjust accordingly. My greatest asset as a teacher is my patience. If a student doesn't get it it's no problem. We just do it again and perhaps in a different manner. I do believe that all students are capable of learning and it's up to the teacher to lead th ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is a reciprocal experience for the mentor and the mentee. I believe in fostering a learning environment for my students that is both participatory and relevant to a their individual learning style and interests. Working one-on-one with a child, adult, or in a small group is a privilege and affords the opportunity to do more than just teach; it is an important opportunity to help to empower someone to "learn how to learn." In my teaching, I believe that developing confidence, self-discipline, and appropriate learning tools is just as important as mastery of any particular subject. In any interaction with a student, I understand and value my role as a tutor, and I aim to inspire and to set a positive example.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy reviewing an assignment, lesson, chapter, or other student material, and determining what is needed from the student. I also believe in making learning as fun and interesting as possible, and in helping students set their own goals for a lesson or for a subject.
I worked in educational assessment for eight years, developing custom tests (in the reading/language arts and social studies content areas) for state departments of education. My focus was on creating tests (multiple-choice and essay-based) in alignment with state standards. In light of my extensive assessment experience, I understand how tests are written and organized, and I understand how to help students prepare for tests, as well as how to complete other assignments. Earlier, I worked as a substitute teacher at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels, and also taught Algebra I for three summers ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style can best be described through the overall goals of the school I am currently working at: fostering self-esteem through respecting each child's diverse nature; cooperation and communication, students are active participates; global awareness, respecting diversity in all its forms; conflict resolution; encouraging and respecting imagination. Student's works are evaluated on individual bases; student's success is measured by their individual achievements, not based on the success of their peers. This year with 18 students I developed 5 different math groups; students are placed at a level where work will be challenging, but not overwhelming.
I have worked both at private and public middle schools. I've gained great respect for diversity in all it's wonderful forms. My experience has taught me that each child, not only deserves, but dreams of success. My belief tha ... read more

In college, I was taught to organize topics in Math, Science and English, using outlines. This ensured that I studied all of the material presented in class. During my career, I use the same method to grasp difficult concepts. As a technical advisor, I shared my knowledge with clients, answering questions and solving problems. As a tutor, I help my students develop strong expertise. At my children's school, I have worked with kids aged 5 to 11 for several years. We work in groups, or individually. I helped my older daughter with her high school English and Math. Reading classic books is a passion of mine. I express a joy for reading to my students, and stress its importance.
My teaching style is hands on. I give hints and partial answers in an effort to encourage students to think through problems and attempt to solve them. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, ... read more
