There are short stories. They first read the story, for 1 minute, which is called a cold read. This is their first recorded words per minute written on their chart. They listen to the story 3 times. They practice reading the story for 1 minute, many times, marking their stopping place and recording how many words they've read onto their reading log. There are questions they answer about the story for comprehension. The reader is then ready for a hot read with the tutor. Their reading words per minute is always improved from their cold read. This is self motivating, which makes for a successfull reader. I want every student to be a better reader and understand what they have read and not be afraid to read. This is my goal as a tutor.

After graduating from St Joseph High School in Santa Maria I attended Hancock College with an Early Childhood Degree Major. I have 48 units from Hancock with 13 units of ECS.I was teaching as a preschool teacher for a private preschool while being a student. Years later I became a Classified Substitute/Temporary Educational Assistant for the Medford,Oregon School District for 6 yrs. I then became a Permanent Classified Campus Monitor and Educational Assistant as needed in the classrooms for 2yrs.During some of that time I have assisted the Special Ed teachers with students with slower learning abilities.I have assisted with acelerator reading programs and other testings on computers.I also assisted in the library and office duties.

I learned at a young age that everyone is different when it comes to learning. As ambitious a student in the classroom as in life I have completed over 180 college credits at age 24. With a preference in sciences most of these credits were completed however my interest expands far beyond the realm into most every subject. Proof of this is shown by the length of my undergraduate work, six years with enlightening pauses in between to broaden my mind through travel. I am able to teach children of all ages and also am able to tailor my teaching style to the age I am teaching.
