I used to hate math, now I love it.

i am pretty relaxed and informal, but I expect students to do the work assigned. I help, but I don't do the work for them. I use Socratic questioning to get students to understand the material. I stress learning concepts and building on them as opposed to memorizing or guessing enough to pass a test.
I received a BS in Horticulture from Va. Polytechnic Institute and State University. majored in Biology (Botany) for 3 years at Virginia Commonwealth Univ. and College of William and Mary. Recently retook Precalculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3 at Virginia Western Community College. I have a background tutoring and running a tutoring center for STEM subjects at a community college for 3 years. I have been tutoring in some form for 6 years. Pre-Calculus is one of my top subjects! Expert at all Pre-Calculus concepts. Particularly good at strongly emphasizing the concepts that are critically important to calculus (negative exponents, fractional exponents, exponent laws in general, factoring, function types and their graphs and how to shift and reflect them, minima and maxima, difference quotient, etc.) and pointing out what you can learn and forget because you won't need it in calculus.

I am currently employed by a college in Roanoke, Virginia as a tutor of mathematics, chemistry, and computer science and tutor elementary school, middle school, high school, college students, and others professionally. I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time.
