I really enjoy engaging the student in discussion of the topic and helping them experience the events in History rather than just remembering dates and locations.
I am currently pursuing a degree in secondary education with a specialization in American History. I have a passion for the subject and for helping students succeed. I just completed my practicum last fall and was active in a 10th grade World History class for about 10 hours a week. During the summer of 2011 I was employed at girl scout camp in Lake George where I planned and taught History lessons for our weekly programs. I also have worked for the Walt Disney Company, in the Magic Kingdom. While I was there, I was able to do American History trivia and tours for the Liberty Square area.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that a subject should be presented in a way that is fun for the pupil. I provide a very hands on approach to learning. If the lesson is engaging than I will argue firmly that a lesson can be extracted from the experience. Certain characteristics are important in the tutor to student relationship. The tutor shall be patient,firm,fun and fair. Every child can succeed if provided with the right resources and the utilization of their resources is essential in their academic success. Therefore, personable lessons are at the root of the learning experience.

Currently, I am a systems engineering graduate student at Penn State University. I have earned a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from SUNY Oswego with minors in applied statistics and philosophy. My last position was as an academic mentor and tutor for AmeriCorps. I have one year of tutoring experience at Hannibal High School in Hannibal, New York. I tutored students in subjects including mathematics, science and history.
I try to relate to the children as best as I can and make the learning fun for them whenever possible. I am easy going, polite and helpful. As a Syracuse University graduate, I studied at the Maxwell School and the Whitman School of management. Maxwell is recognized worldwide for its expertise in public policy and economics. I have taken 3 courses in statistics, 1 in calculus and 1 econometric course which is statistics and calculus combined. Also, because I was enrolled in 2 separate programs I have taken 15 credits of natural science and 12 credits of english.
