A Little Bit About Me...

I am a former attorney, currently in work-release. The undercapitalization of my practice kept me from being able to withstand a series of family financial disasters, and I stole to make ends meet. For this, I take complete personal responsibility. I have been a good, hard worker for my entire life, and I respectfully ask for a second chance. Bonded to $10,000.00.

My comments on tutoring Writing : Elementary

I believe every student has their own style of learing. I am very much a visual learner and utilize this style. Many students, though, are tactile learners and/or find their attention is kept using computers. I love discovering what type of learner each child is. I like to always be positive and instill in my students that they can accomplish anything we just have to work together and discover their "niche". Seeing a child grow and succeed is my greatest reward.
I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and have worked extensively with and for children including a Case Manager at Clay County Behavioral. My comments on tutoring Writing : The Hand Writing Without Tears approach works well for those in special education as it has many techniques for chanllenged students.

I have seventeen years of experience teaching all subjects to all grade levels to students who qualify for the Learning Disabled, Physically & Health Impiared, Attention Deficet Disorder and ADHD programs. As an intinerant teacher I moved from elementary schools to high schools tutoring students in all subject context areas, while providing hands on individualized learning to meet the needs of the students and their disabilities when necessary. This approach provides technology, group learning and one on one learning when necessary for the students to meet their maximum capabilities in school.
My approach to teaching are always individualized to meet the needs of each student.

My greatest teaching philosophy (though I cannot claim it to be original), is "Can't never could!" This is such an important concept, for students as well as their teachers and tutors. Without belief in the student on the part of the teacher or tutor, I feel that a student is more likely to fail. I believe in optimistic approaches and positive reinforcement in the teaching process. This tremendously helps a student succeed. I understand that it is not always possible for a student to gain understanding of a concept in one sitting. Every child should be given opportunities for expansion and growth. I will help every child I work with in every way I can towards their goals.

Learning of any form comes from experience. I am willing as a tutor to help bring learning to a personal level for the student, making connections with their everyday lives and creating unique ways for the students to remember and retain the material being taught. I consider my approach to study to be that of patience, perseverance, and positivity. Students should be rewarded positively for grasping concepts that they are having difficulty with because too often in our schools small achievements are overlooked, and a few encouraging words can often make the difference between success and failure. If you give the student a reason to desire success, I believe they will find a way to make it possible.
